2008 Tour de Goose Four Thursdays In July Mon Dieu!
Mesdames et Messieurs,
The 2008 Tour de Goose is on tnomache air! This is the 6th annual edition. The Tour de Goose is a multi-stage running event fashioned after and taking place during the Tour de France. Runners of all ages and speeds are most welcome. There is only one Stage where you will have to run hard.
You don't have to be fast to win! No matter what your running speed, you will have a shot at winning Stages and the whole Tour itself! No kidding.
The Tour de Goose is primarily about fun and friendship, with plenty of running involved too. There will be beverages, prizes, awards, and an ending barbeque party.
When: The last four Thursday evenings in July (July 10, 17, 24 and 31). Festivities being at 615PM each evening.
Where: Thursday July 10 (Stages 1 and 2): Lincoln High School track, 1600 SW Salmon Street.
Thursday July 17 (Stage 3 and 4) and Thursday July 24 (Stage 5): Corner of SW 20th Ave and SW Jefferson St (which is about 100 meters west of the Goose Hollow Inn at 1927 SW Jefferson Street).
Thursday July 31 (Stage 6 and BBQ): Picnic Area D (the Elephant House!) in Washington Park. Click here for a map.
Cost/Registration: Same fees as last year. The total entry fee for all legs of the Tour is $8 ($13 for non-TRL members), or $3 per day ($6 for non-TRL members.) Registration starts at 5:30pm at the starting point each Thursday.
THE STAGES:
Thursday July 10, Stages 1 and 2 - Guillotine Mile and French Waiter Relay: The Guillotine Mile is a mile time trial on the Lincoln HS track. The goal is to start as late as you can and still cross the finish line before the clock strikes zero and the blade drops! The winner is the person who starts latest and finishes in time. Runners will compete within age and gender groups.
Following the Guillotine Mile, is a new event, the French Waiter Relay. We'll draw names to create 4-person relay teams of equal total speed. Each team member will take to the track for one lap, wearing and carrying...some French stuff to be advised. This will be ridiculous.
Thursday July 17, Stages 3 and 4- Downhill Mile and Storm the Bastille/Let Them Eat Cake: In the Downhill Mile, you'll (blindly) draw a mile time. Your mile time will be one you can easily run. Your job will be to run a downhill mile course down SW Kingston Drive (the road from the Zoo to the Rose Garden) and finish as close to your drawn time as you can. It doesn't matter how fast you run. What matters is how close your actual time is to your drawn time. No watches allowed!
Following the Downhill Mile is Storm the Bastille/Let Them Eat Cake. To commemorate the 219th anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille, and with a nod to Marie Antoinette, you'll race up a short, but very steep hill...with a piece of cake. (Yes, really.) The start will be handicapped based on speed.
The coveted Mista Vista trophy will be awarded to the male winner and the famous Sista Vista trophy will be awarded to the female winner.
NOTE: Runners for Stages 3 and 4 will meet at the Goose Hollow Inn (SW 20th Ave & SW Jefferson St.) at 615PM and we'll jog to the Stage start lines from there.
Meet at the Goose Hollow Inn afterwards for refreshments, results and awards!
Thursday July 24, Stage 5- The Handicapper: Race from Goose Hollow Inn (SW 20th Ave & SW Jefferson St.) to SW Fairview Blvd. The course is partly on pavement, partly on trails. The start time for each runner will be handicapped based on a recent 5K or 10K time. This is the only hard Stage in the Tour.
Meet at the Goose Hollow Inn afterwards for refreshments, results and awards!
Thursday July 31, Stage 6 - Team Competition: This was a blast in it's 2007 debut and this year promises to be even better. We'll draw names to create teams of equal total speed. There will be elements of map reading, puzzle solving, teamwork and strategizing...and lots of running! This stage will start/finish from picnic Area D (the Elephant House!) in Washington Park. Click here for a map.
Awards Ceremony & Barbeque: Immediately following Stage 6 we will have an awards ceremony and BBQ at the picnic area. Time: 7:30pm.
